How Much Does ICSI Cost?

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is used in conjunction with In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) as method of enhancing fertilization of an egg in a controlled laboratory setting. Pronounced – ICKSEE – the procedure entails the embryologist taking a single sperm and injecting it directly into an egg. For the nominal cost of $1,000, ICSI is an ancillary procedure that has revolutionized IVF treatment for couples suffering from low sperm counts and/or motility.

With ICSI, male factor infertile couples have a higher success rate through IVF treatment. For the approximate cost of $1,000, ICSI has become the chosen ancillary procedure via IVF for most couples.

At Advanced Fertility Services, the cost of ICSI is actually included in the three cycle IVF package.

  • Cycle 1 = $9,500 including ICSI
  • Cycle 2 = $8,500 including ICSI
  • Cycle 3 = $8,000 including ICSI

Using ICSI in conjunction with IVF, 70 percent of mature, healthy eggs will fertilize normally into quality embryos.

ICSI Procedure

After eggs are surgically retrieved, a semen sample is produced and processed in order to obtain optimum sperm. Under microscope, a single sperm is selected and then collected into a tiny glass pipette. The sperm is then injected directly into an egg by passing the pipette through the surface of the egg. The sperm cell is released and the pipette is withdrawn from the egg cell.

Eggs are fertilized using the ICSI procedure to maximize the rate of fertilization. This procedure has essentially replaced the method of placing the eggs in a laboratory dish and then depositing thousands of sperm into the fluid surrounding the egg. In this method, the sperm were required to swim to and penetrate the egg.

With ICSI, after the sperm is injected into the egg, it is placed into an incubator. The next day, the injected eggs are analyzed under the microscope to determine how many of the eggs have successfully fertilized into healthy embryos.
